Please note that although we can still insure you if you are not in California and your production/s include stunts, these example quotes are subject to your production being conducted in California with no stunts included. Naturally, we can also insure for longer than 12 or 10 days - these are strictly examples to give you a budget planning guideline.
Our short-term policies are great, but have you considered an Annual Policy?
If you have three or more productions planned for the next 12 months then you would most likely save on cost!
Here’s a few great reasons to do an annual policy instead of short-term:
- More coverage! You get the standard $1M of General Liability, but you also get a $1M limit for Miscellaneous Equipment (covers your rented AND owned equipment, as well as coverage for damage to rented vehicles), $1M for Third Party Property Damage (covers damage to your locations), $1M for Props/sets/wardrobe, $1M for Negative film/Faulty Stock, $1M for Extra Expense, and much more!
- Monthly payments! Instead of dropping around $1,000 up front for a short-term policy, you can start all of the coverages above for zero money down, and then you’ll have ten monthly installments of around $450. This is definitely cheaper than buying a new short-term policy every month or two.
- Less work! It’s a pain to have to call agents every time you want a short-term policy. (We get it - we're not offended! 😉) Annual policies give you the freedom to do whatever productions you want to do throughout the year. This policy allows for you to do any industrial, commercial, or educational videos, as well as music videos, short films, documentaries, and more. If you’re doing any big feature films or TV series then you’d have to let us know about those.
Short-Term vs. Annual Policy - Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I buy a short-term policy and apply that premium towards an annual policy?
A: No, any money paid for a short-term policy is a one-time payment and cannot be applied towards any other policies. That’s why it’s smart to start with the annual policy from the beginning so you don’t “waste” any money on short-term policies.
Q: Can I get Workers Comp?
A: Yes, both the short-term and annual policies allow for Workers Comp, but believe it or not: Work Comp on an annual policy is actually *cheaper* than the short-term policy! Annual prices start at around $700 where the short-term is over $1,000 (In California). However, the reason for that is because the annual Work Comp policy is audited. At the end of the year they will ask how much you paid your cast/crew/contractors for the year and if the actual amount is higher than what was estimated then you’ll be asked to pay extra money. The short-term policies are also based on your estimated payroll, they just have a higher minimum premium because they’re not audited.
Q: Can I get other coverages like Hired Auto, Owned Vehicles, Umbrella Liability, Commercial Property, etc.?
A: Yes, all of those are available on our annual policy for an additional charge! Our short-term policies do not cover owned vehicles, commercial property, and a few other items.
Q: What about feature films or TV shows?
A: Those are usually able to be added onto an annual policy, but there might be an additional premium. You would have to indicate all of the details up front, and it might change based on your budget, distribution method, and other factors. We have other markets that will write an annual policy that covers feature films or TV series, but they don’t allow for monthly payments very easily and their coverage isn’t quite as good.
Q: Can I cancel my annual policy if I don’t have any productions coming up?
A: This is technically allowed, but obviously the insurance company is looking to partner up with a client who is planning to keep their insurance with us and renew for years to come. If you cancel the policy mid-term, they will assess several short-rate cancellation charges, and they will require that you obviously pay for any outstanding premium. So, if you start your policy and try to cancel it after a week without paying anything, you will be required to pay a good chunk of the premium, and you would be sent to collections if it’s not paid. If you don’t plan to keep your insurance for the whole year, we’d recommend sticking with short-term policies for now. However, if you’re planning to do productions throughout the year and pay your premiums then we’ll have no problems! 😉

I was awarded a large production job at the last minute and needed to lock down my insurance needs fast. Luke and the Equipment & Production Insurance team did this for me in a matter of moments. The quote was fair and exactly what was required.
Thank you for your professional help! I look forward to the next job.
Steve Miles, Executive Producer
The Equipment & Production Insurance team assisted me with coverage for a production shoot. They were very helpful over the phone in explaining to me what I would need for my policy, because we are a new company and I am a new employee and I didn't have much background on my needs yet. After that, they were extremely timely and efficient with issuing the policy and certificates of insurance for me. I was under extreme deadlines, and even my other staff members remarked on how fast and great they were to work with. I will definitely do my best to come back to you guys for more production insurance in the future, as much as possible. Not only are your policies reasonable, but your service is excellent!
Liz Burr, MOGULDOM
For this, our first filmmaking venture, we needed insurance that was both affordable and comprehensive. More than that, we needed someone who could give us a quick quote and make understandable the policy we were getting. The Equipment & Production Insurance team were on the spot with an affordable quote and a ready explanation of our benefits. They also made it easy to get out the Additional Insured Certificates to the person who asked for them. We'll be coming back!
Michael Andrew Kane, West of Midnight Films, LLC
I can easily say that I have never had a better experience with any insurance agent. The Equipment & Production Insurance team was always available when we needed them and provided extreme attention to detail. The key factor that has made me the most happy with this experience is the amazingly fast turnaround when we periodically requested additional insurance certificates to be mailed to our vendors.
